Rossendale Rugby Club is hosting the event at the Marl Pits Sports Complex in Rawtenstall. Set in the beautiful Rossendale hills it provides the ideal scenic venue for this year's event.

The venue also benefits from a far bigger event and viewing area than last year.

Thwaits Brewery are sponsoring the Barrel Load event by providing the barrels and trailer. The Blackburn based brewery supply many local pubs with their excellent cask beer (a personal favorite).

Who is the Rossendale's strongest man?

The biggest names in television 'strong man' competitions will be heading for Rossendale as the Valley puts itself on the map as the top warm-up location for the stars.

Local body builders will tough it out with the nations elite by pulling trucks and lifting cars and logs in the Rossendale Strongman Championship. The winner will receive a cash prize and the strongest Rossendale competitor will earn steak worth £100 and a Free Press trophy.

Free admission is just one of the many reasons why this will be a great day out for all the family. Spectators will also benefit from plentiful supplies of beer, hot food, ice cream and trade tents in addition to the competition itself.

A programme will be available to purchase on the day with all proceeds going to charity.

Volunteers Required
If last years run-away success is anything to go by hundreds, possibly thousands, of spectators are expected. Jon Nield, Gym owner and main organiser, has recruited gym regulars to ensure safety and smooth running of the event but is appealing for more help. 'We need people to help set up the competition areas, marshal spectators and help clear up at this local event.'

Expenses
The travel expenses will be paid to all competitors. Overnight accommodation will also be provided by prior agreement.
